The Interview


Criteria/suggestions:
Break the kids into groups of two. Explain that they have to interview their teammate/partner, then have them switch and the interviewer becomes the interviewee. Give the option of collectively or individually producing their video using moviemaker, photostory, ect.
Has to be a minimum of 6 questions.
Questions cannot be a yes/no question, answer has to be an extended response.
Record the interview, display and produce video using video editing software.
Video criteria:
4 video transitions
OR
4 text transitions: possibly displaying the questions that you are asking the interviewee with the appropriate responses following.
2 songs as part of the soundtrack with appropriate fade in/fade out transitions
Implementation:
During this project, send class to media center four groups at a time to record their interviews. Research and any writing or video production for the project should be done in the classroom.

Science option #1: break students into 2 person teams and have interviewee study a certain topic, such as the concept of escape velocity and how it works, and have the other student record and produce a 5 minute movie which follows the above video criteria
Math option #1: break students into 2 person teams and have interviewee study a certain topic , such as explaining the history of the number 0, and have the other student record and produce a 5 minute movie which follows the above video criteria.
Social studies option #1 Have interviewee prepare by pretending they are a historical figure of note or a fairly anonymous figure of the particular time, eg.. a French soldier during the war of 1812, Abraham Lincoln, Napoleon, or a settler in the northwest territory. Interview subject, bringing to light subjects such as recent historical events of the time, popular/unpopular ideas, perceived attitudes of certain subjects (slavery, women’s rights, america’s role in that age’s politics).
Social studies option #2 Have the kids give video opinions on current events. This should tie in nicely to the google reader/current events project mentioned in the current events year long project mentioned in the MSGINI wiki.
Reading/Language Arts option #1 Interviewee gives opinion piece on a book
Reading/ Language Arts option #2 Interviewee pretends to be character in this book.
Reading/Language Arts option #3 Interview each other, recording as much as you can about that person’s life and family history.
